Our Instructors

Many of our teachers have years of Yoga experience. All of them have a love of the practice and live their "sadhana" off the mat! Sample each teacher. They each have their own style and gifts.



"Sadhana" means -Personal Spiritual Practice in Sanskrit.

This Schedule is Effective for Summer 2008


Beginners Yoga - This will be a gentle class focused on technique and philosophy, especially for Beginners. If you have never tried Yoga before but always wanted to, this is the class for you! GENTLE Beginners will have more instruction and slower movement. MODERATE Beginners will have more movement and longer holding of postures.

Kripalu Yoga- The Yoga of Compassion, based on the teachings of Swami Kripalu. This flow concentrates on alignment and breath, and learning to link the breath with the movement for safety. Postures will be held to develop strength. The flow will be gentle to moderate and options will be given to deepen or soften the experience. Kripalu Yoga is described as a "Meditation in Motion". This class is suitable for all levels.

Power of Centering- Yoga teaches us to center ourselves in body, mind, and spirit; from that center, we move with power, stillness of mind, and grace. The Power of Centering will focus on building strength, flexibility, and focus through a hatha yoga practice that incorporates elements from various forms, including Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Vinyasa.
The class is suitable for people at all levels of yoga practice, from beginner to advanced. Through focus on the breath, on the core muscle groups, and on the natural center, or “seat,” of poses and transitions, participants will practice the centering of yoga to bring its' benefits both on the mat, and off the mat and into daily life.

Astanga Yoga- an invigorating flow based on the Sun Salutation, Surya Namaskar. Develop strength using this time honored flow. Suitable for practitioners with at least 6 months of experience.

Family Yoga- Yoga cultivates in children poise and care for self and others. They are guided in a harmonious environment to being comfortable in the practice of "time-in" and breathing, yoga and educational group play, rest and visualization to music. The activities guide young hearts and minds toward priorities that enrich their lives and the world: Being-Doing-Having

Vinyasa Flow- a flow of Yoga postures that moves from one into the other seamlessly.

Sunday Sadhana- a flow of Yoga movements with attention on Spirituality and the Self. Sadhana means "Personal Spiritual Practice" in Sanskrit.

Raja Yoga-Pathway to cultivating a personal, spiritual practice. Meetings will be lead by Leonore Alaniz, long-time student and practitioner of raja yoga. Each session will acquaint participants with tools that help us to calm our feelings and focus the mind, and help us to meditate. The tools are energizations, utilization of breath, affirmations, use of prayer and chanting, mantras, visualization and introspection. We tend to use tools that resonate with our temperament. Raja (the royal) Yoga integrates these learnings, known as yoga of Jnana -- (knowledge), Bhakti - (devotion), Kriya - (techniques, incl. hatha and pranayam), Kharma - (service). Because Raja Yoga is free of dogma, it brings us into harmony with our higher Self. Content and practices of meetings builds on previous ones. Suitable for age 16 and older; yoga or meditation experience is not required. Suggested reading list and hand-outs will be provided. Bring a firm cushion and warm wrap. Suggested donation for Raja Yoga Class-$12 per class.

Fluid Yoga Movement- This approach to experiencing asanas complements familiar angular alignment with fluid movement. We practice hatha yoga to world music that coaxes us to move gracefully within each asana and beyond ~ into another one. We fine-tune each asana “to taste” and explore its essence with slow, fluid movements akin to dance. The practice is one of loving self-discovery that relaxes and focuses the mind and body on deep levels.

Yoga and Art for Life!
Six summer yoga-art classes for children age 7 –13 and their guardians. Children 10 years and older may attend by themselves.
Yoga means being at peace with our selves and with the world. In this class we enjoy interactive yoga movement and drawing each other in poses - called life drawing. We learn thereby anatomy of our bodies and how it responds to our thoughts. Our tools are:Focused breathing, affirmations and yoga postures, kinesthetic games to music, listening to metaphoric stories and drawing.
Minimum five children per class and maximum twelve children. Registration one week prior to class is necessary.
YOGAed certified instructor and teaching artist Leonore Alaniz guides young people to discover and develop their physical and artistic gifts.

Belly Dancing- is an ancient feminine art of moving the body. All sizes and shapes are welcome! Learn to move your curvaceous and beautiful body. Feeling shy? Come with a friend! You do not need to actually show your belly to participate!
